About the aspiring dog owner
Jan 7th, 2009 by hartgro
I am a dog lover, currently living without a dog. I decided to start this blog as a way to document my journey towards dog ownership, share tips I find as I read dog training and dog behavior books, and hopefully to start a conversation with other dog lovers like you so that we can learn from each other and share the joy of living with and loving dogs.
If you want to know even more about me, check out my very first blog post: Confession #1 – I don’t own a dog
If you’d like to contact me directly rather than leaving a comment, please email me at aspiringdogowner@gmail.com – I look forward to hearing from you!
Hi, Heather!
I enjoyed meeting you today at C-K and of course had to check out your dog blog. It’s great!
If you are looking for a dog to adopt in the near future, today I received a request for help to find a home for two beautiful labs who are 3-year-old sisters. One is blonde and the other is black.
Tempting? If so, I would be happy to send photos. Here is the note I received.

As many of you know, we are moving in just 2 weeks. Unfortunately, I have still not been able to find a good home for Cookie
andCoco. We’re not able to take our beloved doggies with us and I’ve been desperately trying to find a home for both of them “together/” They were raised together and pine without each other. The Lab rescue have already said that they would probably separate them, so this is my last resort.
Recently I tried to takeCocoout in my car al! one and she TOTALLY refused to even get into the car without Cookie.!!!! She
absolutely pulled back on her haunches until Cookie was by her side. Both doggies are in great health, have been spayed and have ID chips implanted under the skin.
Cookie turned 3 December10th andCocowill be 3 April 1st. Cookie is my mellow-yellow, and just loves her tummy rubbed.Cocois
adorably funny and lives for her “ball”. She also loves the water…..Cookie loves lots of attention. Both doggies are loyal and love to walk. They have been raised with my 3 kids running around all over the place, and have survived Sammy’s constant hugging and love of ‘dress-up’, so they are fantastic family dogs.
This is by far one of the most difficult decisions I have ever had to make, but under the circumstances I have no choice.
Please, Please forward these pics to all you know and help me find a great home for these fabulou! s doggies. They are just adorable and it’s heartbreaking to let them g o. In a perfect world, I hope that we could find someone local so that we can still keep in touch and visit them. I pray that someone, somewhere can help us keep Cookie andCocotogether, and love them just as much as we do.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
Best Regards,
Sarah

Hi Nancy,
It was great meeting you, too, and so fun to hear about our common love for dogs!
Send me a link to your blog when you have a second and I’ll put a link to it from my site.
I have to say you are getting me on the labs – I am so very tempted. The craziest part – Coco and I have the same birthday!! Both April Fools babies. On the flip side, we do live in an apartment and we have to get our landlord’s approval before we get a dog. I’m afraid that asking for 2 dogs might be too much, and I’d be concerned about having enough space for two.
However, I would really love to put together a blog post with their pictures and with the note you shared above. I’ll put an APB out to my Phoenix network and hopefully we can find someone to love Cookie and Coco! Please send pics when you have a minute.
Thanks!
Heather
